Weed / Silt Control
Weed Control
We offer several methods of weed control, depending on the nature of the water-body and severity of the weed growth.
Over the years, we've found some methods to be far more effective than others. Methods we favor include; the use of dyes in the water, to lessen the amount of sunlight the weeds receive (inhibiting their growth), and applying temporary shading to areas, on the same principal.
Every situation is different however, and methods such as raking root nodules early in the spring, or a carefully devised stocking program of benthic feeding fish can also be used to great effect.

Silt Removal
One method we've had success with over the years is the application of Siltex to fisheries. Siltex is a natural way to reduce the amounts of organic silt in a water-body, and is an inexpensive and quick way of improving water quality. Being organic, it is no threat to other plants and aquatic life. Biodiversity will also increase, as Siltex boosts and stimulates the food chain.
Siltex is a highly porous form of Calcium Carbonate, and is applied directly to the water either in powdered or slurry form.
Siltex will decrease organic and oxidisable matter (silt) as well as increasing oxygenation, improving pH and clarity.
Siltex can be supply only, or applied at a cost.
Silt traps are another natural way of reducing silt in a lake or pond. Not only do silt traps reduce the amount of or organic and oxidisable matter, but also significantly increases biodiversity. For details on highly successful projects in which silt traps have been used to great effect
